""Lime mud"

The slaked lime or otherwise – lime puttya few words here already fallen: about what rules apply when digged down, and how much " time must elapsed" to be suitable for use.

In informal talks with representatives of companies implementing or producing plasters you can hear - "I know that You are right, but it is inconvenient, it is time-consuming (the fact that two days is ...) and in general this is not a word instant "soup in powder ": take two bags, fifteen liters of water, stir for five minutes and apply". Responsibility zero.

Quite a long time ago I heard that in Austria can buy slaked lime as a finished product is already in the bags or other containers. Such information for someone who knows the problems of plaster or rules in the preparation of the traditional plaster cement - lime is a kind of shock, something to measure information that you can buy a jar of air from the forest. Unfortunately, this shock has come true recently.

Information was typical. After the initial interview and a short "come on buddy" saw pails, eye, 20 litres containing something that our language can be translated as "lime mud". A short trip on the internet and it turns out that it really is a lime putty, which is the product of lime eating traditional method of preserving formerly used methods.

Is that lime is thus extinguished - I do not know, I guess I will not, because I was honored to visit pictorial in the plant - but the information itself "lime putty" says it all. This is one of the products lime slaking. If periods of several years are maintained, the lime putty obtained from fire hydrated lime for several days is of lower quality, but a bit lower quality lime putty is still lime pie and continues to meet its objectives and role that has been assigned to him.

This also means that the companies or, more broadly - contractors (including, as it is called - non-institutional) using such bucket must for the construction mix plaster "on the spot" and not buy ready-made, usually in powder (as they are cement - lime). Such a method is the need to use cement of sufficient quality, including white, and a filler suitable granulation.

A completely separate issue is that the use of such a "lime mud" bought in the store, not prepared on site for the place really treat ourselves as people unable really to anything beyond reading the manual on the first level of primary school. Short and blunt military: "Read - understood - do" and equally succinct answer "Yes!" Crack heels and running to perform: from here to the 3pm ...

Viewed from a broader perspective, the purchase and import of that cake limestone does not provide the best, in turn, should:

• specialists conservators - because of many reasons, should know the techniques and methods, which produced a number of years and then plaster them "improvement" to make them more durable, harder and more resistant to environmental conditions. After saving a conservation plan for this or another building and some works of buying such a "kalk" from the description to perform on it plaster - testifies. Better not to save, to do the plaster / syringe white / gray / colored traditional method using slaked lime on place (square) the construction and filler granulation x.y mm?
  
• companies implementing - that they are working professionals, technologists, who should also have knowledge about the techniques and methods, and we should point out such curiosities and bad ideas. It was their initiative should go out ideas about that instead of spending thousands of euros or pounds, just beat a wooden bathtub, seal it even a simple sheet, to buy any number of tons of lime paying feu euros per bag and the beginning of work start to extinguish. Before his time will come - it will already be suitable for plastering concrete or masonry, and its quality will be improved with each passing day ...
  
• announcing the conditions of tenders and to check the submitted cost estimates - it's their job to watch of euros on each side and it is in these committees sit usually those whose task is also to identify appropriate technology - the latter should indicate which method is right, which fulfill the conditions set out in the tender, former and - estimates of expenditure. Again, the situation repeats itself - if it can be done any number of times cheaper, why not?
  

• in many countries (f. ex. in Poland) is knowledge how to on-site use traditional methods related to both the form and execution of plaster, without having to import factory made /ready-made products
  
• as outside country there is a demand for such a product, since he is described as traditional, inflected by all the cases, indicating that it is very good - it may be time no longer in the field of conservation and restoration begin to return to what was, and rediscover what for our ancestors was just obvious
  
• if still in the 70s and 80s restoration plasters were prepared using the traditional method and "the great of this world" agreed on the fact that although they were mixed using cement (nb. a lot better than it is now), slaked lime (so much better as hydrated) and the usual filler with a suitable granulation - perhaps taking advantage of the fact that such a method is an order of magnitude cheaper than the "premixed" and at the same time better - to return to it, saving considerable amounts of
  

Once again, it appears that once again we discover what has long since been discovered that the pious almost reverently treated not only as a society, but also as experts what will come to us from abroad, it is best described as "traditional", perfectly forgetting that for many reasons, even four decades ago, all this was not only well known, but used every day.

Quietly, like a whisper there will be concerns that once were the other materials - other, of course, better lime, different, of course, better cement. The sand did not mention one - because this is still what it was. Do not listen to this - is available sensational white cement, just ask, we can perfectly extinguish lime, using the fact that hydrated lime is quenched with less, as well as the fact - that in exceptional only cases team enters and start without discernment area begins to build a brickwork or plaster.

Not to observe the uncritically - if we buy something, we use some imported products for serious money, let's see if our tradition of building is not equivalent. Usually much cheaper and equally easy to use.
